Shelby Head is a sculptor who is known for zir ability to connect accomplished form with social content. Ze constantly experiments and challenges zirself to create work using new materials in order to extend zir visual vocabulary as well as content. Head has worked in public art and has been widely exhibited in galleries, alternative spaces, and art fairs. Recent solo exhibitions include Alvarez Gallery (Connecticut), Cloyde Snook Gallery (Colorado), El Pueblo History Museum (Colorado) and TAF Archer Studios Window Front (Oklahoma). Upcoming exhibitions: 2022 ahha Tulsa Gallery, 2022 Melton Gallery at the University of Central Oklahoma and 2023 Living Arts of Tulsa. Ze is the recipient of numerous art residencies, fellowships, and grants: Artist’s Resource Trust Grant, Jentel Artist Residency Fellowship, VSC Merit Grant art residency at Vermont Studio Center, CT Artist Fellowship Grant, and SLV Social Practice Arts Residency sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. Sculpture Space’s Review Panel and Board of Directors selected Head for their 2022 Artist in Residence program. Head lives and works in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a 2020-22 Tulsa Artist Fellow.
